|
Per the conversations and feedback received about our pilot year with ePortfolios, there will be a few changes for the 2015-2016 school year.
- All 5th grade students will create an ePortfolio using Google Sites.
- Instead of the 4 required projects, you, as the teacher, will choose a minimum of 2 projects to complete to include on student ePortfolios. See choices below.
- Grading the ePortfolios is optional.
- The Google Site Template has changed. Click HERE to view. The ePortfolio will now reflect that students will be traveling to each grade with their ePortfolio. The two projects you choose to do with your students this year, can both go on the 5th Grade page together. Want to know how to add subpages under 5th Grade? Contact Diane DeLaTorre.

Rolling Out the ePortfolios to Your Students
Here are suggestions on how to introduce ePortfolios to your students. These will be links to lesson plans you can choose to use to get set up on ePortfolios.

Google Sites
- Investigation 1: What is an ePortfolio: This is a 30-45 minute activity to introduce ePortfolios to your students. The lesson plan and handout are all on the Google Doc.
- MINI Skill: Logging In and Logging Out of Google: It is a good idea to have students practice doing this skill before setting up an ePortfolio. Stress how important it is to log out of the computer and iPad so other students won't be able to access/change/delete their work.
- Investigation 2: Setting up Student Google Sites (Finding Google Sites, logging in, choosing Grandview C4 template, renaming site, and sharing site with teacher)
- All About Me and Wordle Lesson Plan for ePortfolios (a getting to know you beginning of the year activity while learning the basics of editing) The Wordle activity of the lesson plan is optional.
- Customizing Google Sites - Change the theme and style of a Google Site! This is just for motivation for students to really feel like their Google Site really represents their personality. Have students go to www.csd4tech.com and click on ePortfolios, then Students and watch the video on Customizing Google Sites, then have students try it out themselves!
Google Drive
- Setting up Students on Google Drive (There are tutorials on the basics of Google Drive on the HELP section of student's ePortfolio)
- Google Drive All About Me Collaborative Writing Experience: Use this template and share with your students for them to have an authentic experience with the whole class writing on ONE document! Directions on how to use this template:
A. Open up the Template
B. Make a Copy of the Template (click on File - Make a Copy - then rename it. This will be saved to your Google Drive)
C. Write the names of your students in Column A and edit/change the questions to what you want.
D. Share the document with your students. (When sharing with your students, you will have them log in to Google Drive
and click on "Shared with me" (or "Incoming" on an iPad) to find the file you have shared.
E. Once students have found the file you have shared, have them fill out their part while watching others put in their information at the same time.

Extra Information
Creating a Student Contact List
Instead of sharing a Google Document with each student individually, you can set up a student contact list to share a document with all students at once! This is a HUGE time saver if you are not using Google Classroom! Check out the video on how to create a student contact list.

Adding Pages to Google Sites
You may have another project or subject you want your students to add to in their ePortfolios. To do this, you would have your students add another page to their ePortfolio and then add it to the sidebar. Here are directions on how to do this:
